We offer child adoption services to those who wish to adopt Thai children. Our experienced team of legal advisers and professional consultants are here to support and guide you through every stage of the adoption journey in Thailand, ensuring you understand the legal process, requirements and responsibilities involved.
Adopting a child is a life changing decision, for the adoptive parents and the child. In Thailand, many children need stable, loving homes. At the same time, many individuals and couples, whether due to personal circumstances or fertility challenges, are looking to grow their families through adoption.
Adoption is more than a legal process, it’s a chance to provide a nurturing environment and a promising future to a child in need. Whether you are residing in Thailand or are an international applicant, adopting a child here is possible with the right guidance and legal support.
Adoption in Thailand is regulated by strict laws to protect the best interests of the child. These laws ensure that the adoptive family is emotionally, financially, and legally equipped to take on the responsibility of raising a child. Our team can help simplify the process, handle documentation, and ensure compliance with all local and international adoption regulations.
The adoptive parent gains full legal rights over the child and can raise the child as their own, just like a biological parent.
The adopted child can legally use the adoptive parent’s last name and is entitled to inherit their property and assets. However, inheritance does not apply in reverse—the adoptive parent cannot inherit from the child.
Upon registration, the biological parents (or guardians) relinquish all parental rights. Full responsibility is transferred to the adoptive parent(s).
To adopt a child in Thailand, you must meet specific legal requirements. Our team will help you assess your eligibility and guide you through the preparation process. Key criteria include:
We begin by discussing your situation, answering your questions, and helping you prepare essential documentation, such as identification, financial records, background checks, and medical certificates. These documents must be translated into Thai and submitted to the appropriate authorities.
A licensed social worker will visit your home (in Thailand or abroad) to evaluate your living environment, lifestyle, and readiness to adopt. Their report is submitted to the Department of Children and Youth (DCY) for review.
If you’re applying to adopt a child under state care, DCY will match you with a child based on compatibility, preferences, and the child’s best interests. If you have identified a specific child to adopt (e.g., a stepchild or relative), this will be factored into the process.
A foster care period of at least 6 months is required. During this time, authorities will monitor your home to ensure the child is adjusting well. You may need to provide progress reports or allow home visits from social workers.
If the probation period is successful, you can move forward with the official adoption registration. This is done at the local district office or, in the case of international adoption, at the Thai embassy or consulate in your home country.
For international adoptions, follow-up reports may be required to confirm that the child is continuing to thrive in their new environment.
